Hobart Dining

There are some great eateries in and around Hobart, both causal and formal.

Some popular restaurants include:

Rockwall Bar and Grill: 89 Salamanca Place. This restaurant offers sophisticated or casual dining with an extensive wine list and food that brings light to Tasmania’s produce.

Peacock and Jones: 33 Hunter Street. Situated on the wharf in a beautiful heritage sandstone building. This restaurant serves delicious local produce, has an excellent wine list and is a great place for a special night out.

Old Wharf: 18 Hunter Street. Located on the ground floor of the Mac01 hotel, right on the water, a great location for a drink or a fine dining experience. The best of locally caught fish and the freshest produce. Great interior design and feel.

The Glass House: Brooke Street Pier, Franklin Wharf. A beautifully designed floating restaurant in the heart of Hobart, offering a selection of Tasmania’s finest drinks, matched with unique shared plates.

Fico: 151 Macquarie Street. Established in 2016, Fico combines the European heritage of head chefs Federica and Oskar, showcasing their personalities and sense of culture through their dishes. Inspired by their respective backgrounds in fine dining establishments, Fico is a neo bistro blurring the lines between fine dining and a traditional bistro… we like to call it fun dining.

Mezethes Greek Taverna: 77 Salamanca Square. Mezethes is a Greek Taverna in Salamanca Square, serving a range of traditional Greek dishes all prepared using the best quality Tasmanian ingredients.

Me Wah: 16 Magnet Court. One of the best Chinese restaurants in our opinion! Delicious food with great service, dine in or take away with plenty of options for vegetarians.

Paesano Pizza & Pasta: 108 Lansdowne Crescent, about 10 minute drive. Delicious food with great service, dine in or take away, “best Calzones in Tassie!”

Urban Greek: 103 Murray Street. A traditional Greek restaurant with a modern twist. At Urban Greek you’ll get an authentic Cretan dining experience that uses only the best in local and Greek produce.

Hobart’s Attractions

Heading out of town? There is plenty to do and see.

We recommend:

The Female Factory  – Australia’s most significant site associated with female convicts. Women were incarcerated here as punishment or while waiting to be assigned. With guards, nurses and babies, up to 1000 people lived here at any one time. Discover the stories of female convicts and their children on a guided tour that operate regularly throughout the day. Experience ‘Her Story’ – a moving and emotional 45 minute dramatized guided walking tour.

Cascade Brewery – Experience the proud heritage and brewing craft of the Cascade Brewery, a Tasmanian icon. Our tours depart from the Cascade Visitor Centre throughout the day and are available to anyone over the age of 16. Numbers are limited so booking in advance is highly recommended.
After your tour experience you’ll return to the bar for a selection of ice cold, brewery fresh beers and ciders. Here you can relax in our heritage beer garden, enjoy a meal from our café, check out the displays or browse the merchandise.
Brewery tours take approximately one hour plus tasting time and run every day (closed Christmas Day and Good Friday).

Bruny Island – Bruny has wonderful flora and fauna, stunning beaches, the Bruny Island Cheese Co. shop and restaurant, Bruny Island Berry Farm, Bruny Island House of Whiskey, Get Shucked Oyster Farm, and the Bruny Island Premium Wine bar and Grill, plus lots more.

Mount Wellington – With an abundance of outdoor activities so close to the city of Hobart in a pristine environment, this is certainly a must see place. On the mountain there is plenty of bushwalking, mountain biking, and even four wheel driving to be done.

Coal Valley wine region, including the historical settlement of Richmond. A beautiful trail with over fourteen individual wineries plus many more restaurants and historical sites in Richmond that are a must see.

The Huon Valley – A beautiful region with plenty of things to see, do, and taste. Some of my favourites are the Apple Shed Museum, Hartz Mountains National Park, the Forest and Heritage Centre, the Tahune Forest AirWalk, Hastings Caves Reserve, Peppermint Bay Restaurant, and Grandvewe Cheeses.

Freycinet National Park – Located along the east coast of Tasmania this beautiful park is home to dramatic pink granite peaks, secluded bays, white sandy beaches (including the iconic Wineglass Bay) and abundant birdlife. If you have the time to while you’re in Hobart you will not be disappointed.

Port Arthur Historic Site – Port Arthur is a place of vivid history and cultural heritage; it is also one of the 11 places that make up the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Australian Convict Sites.

Museum of Old and New Art MONA – MONA is Australia’s largest private museum and one of the most controversial private collections of modern art and antiquities in the world.

In all of our properties we have left some tourist information for your convenience so you can make the most of your time in Hobart and surrounds.
